About Me

Education: Human Biology B.S. from the University of California, San Diego with a minor in Music. Current third year dual-degree Medical Student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Masters of Public Health student at the University of Miami.

Experience: 10 years of tutoring/teaching

Hi! My name is Valerie Stark, and I am a third year medical student and masters of public health student at the University of Miami! I have been tutoring for 10 years now throughout high-school, college, and medical school, and have a particular passion for teaching the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry), mentoring students in transitioning stages, and more! Throughout my time in college at UCSD, I served as a tutor for a program called OASIS (Office of Academic Support and Instruction Services) as a Chemistry tutor and a mentor/senior lead through CASP (Chancellor’s Associate Scholarship Program) and OASIS Learning Community Mentor for students from underserved communities. I was also a student-athlete throughout high school and college and have participated in musical groups as a pianist and vocalist, so I understand the difficulties of balancing various activities. In addition, I spent my first gap year prior to medical school teaching English and Natural Sciences in a private primary and secondary school and tutored some students individually after school. Lastly, I tutored during my second gap year at an Academy for students struggling with homework in a group setting, and after hours at students’ homes for students needing individual help. As a current Peer Support Navigator at UMMSM, I love mentoring students in their study habits, balancing tight schedules, and listening to people in tough times. I strive to create safe and engaging learning environments for students, and I am passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation to provide students better opportunities to succeed! Every student learns differently, and I care to cater to the learning-style of each student. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your goals!
